Visiting Pashupatinath was deeply spiritual. The evening Aarati ceremony along the Bagmati River was absolutely mesmerizing. The sadhus in meditation added to the otherworldly atmosphere.

A spectacular juxtaposition of grief and joy — the closing ceremony merged with funeral pyres. At points I was moved to tears watching families cremate loved ones with such dignity.

Non-Hindus cannot enter the inner sanctum which was disappointing but understandable. The cremation ghats were sobering and respectful. Sadhus charged for photos.

Beware of fake sadhus demanding money aggressively. The real devotional experience is there if you look but tourism has commercialized the outer areas significantly.

The Shivaratri festival here is absolutely incredible. Millions of pilgrims arrive and the energy is unlike anything I have experienced.

Hired a guide which was the best decision. He explained each ritual — tarpan at the ghats, the symbolism of the Nandi statue, why the lingam is central to Shiva worship.

Visited at 6am before the crowds. Morning puja was transcendent. Priests chanting Sanskrit mantras as the sun rose over Bagmati River. Living heritage at its most authentic.

The Bagmati River is unfortunately heavily polluted — inconsistent with the sacred status. Cleanliness near the ghats needs attention. Management must prioritize this.
